While the SansAmp GT-2 is popular, the analogue amp simulations of the original eighties edition still holds a special place in the heart of many guitarists and bassists: this is the SansAmp Classic. Just like the OG, the reissue comes loaded with all the familiar Tech21 sounds we first fell in love with way back when. So as soon as it's jacked in, you immediately understand why this pedal was planted at the feet of none-other-than Kurt Cobain by the guitar tech, Earnie Bailey. Basically, if you want that classic Nirvana sound, this is where you'll find it.

The Tech21 SansAmp Classic: Legendary British & American Tone

The Character section of this fat pedal supplies eight different simulations spanning all of the legendary British and American amp sounds of yore, so guitarists can scroll through everything from classic rock and electric blues tone. The first two settings offer differently flavoured mid-range boosts, while the third adds a light drive, and settings 4 and 5 supply the sparkling cleans. The sixth setting emulates the sound of hot, old-school amp valves while the final two settings are focussed on speaker simulation and mic placement. The output is sculpted in detail by the Presence Drive and Amplifier Drive pots found on the left, while the volume and high frequencies are adjusted via the pots on the right. Simple, effective, and satisfying, the Tech21 SansAmp Classic is just as solid as it was forty years ago.
